Overview

West Mendíp Walkers 6.5 mile moderate circular walk from the Crown Inn, Churchill (BS25 5PP). The route starts with a modest uphill section passing Churchill quarry to pick up Lyncombe Lane path which can be muddy at times before descending to Lyncombe Wood and the ski centre. We continue through the woods and then ascend gradually through Sandford Wood crossing over Lyncombe Lane with a steep descent to Pylewell Lane. At the main road (A38) at Star we turn left along the footpath and then cross over and follow the lower path through a field opposite to New Road, Shipham. Crossing with care we follow Philfare Lane (can be muddy) to the Swan Inn at Rowberrow. We continue straight across the lane and down Back Lane to pick up the Limestone Link heading in a westerly direction towards  Dolebury Bottom. We cross the A38 one final time and climb the hill opposite and back to our starting point. Food which is good is available at the Crown Inn but they do not accept bookings. They are happy for us to use their car park provided we go in for food and drink afterwards.
