West Mendip Walkers 11.5 mile, moderate walk from Mere to East Knoyle. Starting at Mere recreation fields, we pass Burton Mill, then join the Monarch's Way to a brief refreshment stop in the shelter of St. Mary's church in West Knoyle before the steady ascent to Windmill Hill, East Knoyle for lunch with views across the Blackmore Vale. The descent takes us through woods to Mackintosh Davidson Nature Reserve and open fields to Lordsmead Mill in Mere, returning to the recreation fields car park. Expect mud! There are several wooden stiles and short, but steep descents that will be slippery if wet. There will be some walking on quiet lanes and some fields with livestock, but otherwise the route is dog friendly. Refreshments afterwards at the Hill Brush tea room "The Brush and Broom" BA12 6FE. This walk has some steep climbs
The later start time of 10am has been set in order to avoid school drop-off congestion in town and at the car park which is used for the adjacent school. Please note that there is no exit from the A303 eastbound at the east end of Mere. Use the B3092 junction if travelling east on the A303.
