From the carpark we follow footpaths eastward and then southward to Wotton, passing en-route a memorial to Bishop Samuel Wilberforce and, later, the hillside church of St. John containing memorials to the 17th Century diarist John Evelyn.
Continuing, southward towards the hamlet of Broadmoor we pause at a memorial to Margaret Lovelace and Tony Parker, founder members of Kingston Ramblers. Then pass a waterfall, constructed in 1738 as a grand piece of past garden landscaping, the water flowing into the nearby Tillingbourne Stream. From Broadmoor our route turns west to reach the Mill Pond at Friday Street. In the 16th Century this powered a nearby gunpowder mill; only the Mill House remains. Taking a northerly, woodland-edge path we return to Wotton, our lunch stop. (pub drinks and toilets available.)
From Wotton our walk concludes by retracing the opening section, via Wotton Church and Park Farm.
A moderate undulating route with a short roadside section and a busy road-crossing (A25) at Wotton with a central reservation for pedestrians). Following recent heavy rainfalls, expect some parts of the route to be muddy and wet. Walking boots are recommended; poles may be helpful in places.
