Our walk begins by following footpaths westward along the Tillingbourne valley into Shere village. There, we pass several points of interest, including the church of St. James (c. 1190), a village well dug into an 18th C. wall and "The Old Prison", early 17th C.
Near the Chantry footbridge and ford we leave the Tillingbourne, following a gradual upward route southward beyond Shere Heath. Then, turning E/SE we follow a series of paths and lanes via the Lawbrook stream and Hazel Hall to Peaslake, our lunch stop (pub drinks and toilets available).
During the afternoon, we first skirt the northern edge of Hurt Wood to Sutton Abinger. Then, after a short ascent near Raike's Hollow, we follow mostly easy-descending paths, with wide views of the North Downs, towards Gomshall, passing Oxmoor Copse (Woodland Trust) en route.
A moderate, undulating walk with a few short roadside sections. For further information or for help to travel to the Starting point, 'phone leader 07870 949079.
Toilets available in Shere village and at the lunch stop.
