A WALK DESCRIPTION: The walk begins in Cleobury Mortimer and follows paths, tracks and lanes through rolling rural landscapes and picturesque villages (Neen Sollers and Bayton). We also pass a 16th/17th century Manor House (Reaside farm), an imposing Georgian building ( Shackenhurst Hall) and a baroque country house ( Mawsley Hall)….all listed buildings. The walk ends with a riverside walk along the river Rea before returning to the coach in Cleobury Mortimer. Hopefully the walk will also provide an opportunity to see some of the wildlife less frequently seen today e.g. hares, deer and birds of prey all of which were spotted during the recce. Please note that although the total ascent is ‘only’ 480 meters the route is hilly with lots of ups and downs. Picnic lunch with (if time allows) a pub stop at the end. Distance: 11.5 miles, Ascent: 480 meters, Descents: 480 meters. The fare is £5.
BOOKING ESSENTIAL, please use the link above for our booking page. Coach fare £5, payable cash/cheque or in advance by bank transfer.
The Birmingham Ramblers recently bid for, and won, a grant from the Inclusive Communities Fund which is part of the legacy of the Commonwealth Games. This grant is specifically to assist with coach transport to encourage new people to join the Sunday walks and start walking in country areas.
We will be using this fund to subsidise coach-based walks, such as this one, in areas which offer opportunities to new inexperienced walkers as well as challenges to regular walkers under the banner Keep Fit for a Fiver. As this suggests, we are reducing the coach fare for this and some other selected walks to £5 for all, be they regular walkers or new faces.
