Overview

B WALK DESCRIPTION: walk 9.5 miles, with 650 feet of ascent. Starting from the village of Avon Dassett we follow field paths and gradually ascend onto the Dassett Hills where we will have our morning break with good views, weather permitting. Next we descend off the hills and follow paths which take us passed woodland (Fox's Covert) and into the village of Fenny Compton. Then after leaving the village we pass under two different railways and make for the Oxford Canal, which we will then follow to "The Wharf Inn" where we will have our lunch break. *Please note that we cannot eat our own food at the pub, but can sit near the canal. * Next, after retracing our steps for a short distance, we pass Fenny Compton Marina and then cross the canal and climb steps to a road bridge from where we take a bridleway and footpaths across undulating countryside back to Avon Dassett. It is then about half a mile along a lane which will take us to a layby on the main road where the coach will be parked at the end of the walk. The fare is £15.
