C WALK DESCRIPTION: Walk 6 miles with 1,200 ft of climbing. Picnic lunch. Walk starts from Holmfirth leisure centre and is a circuit of the town. From the leisure centre go South along a flat river path along the River Holme to Holmfirth. Then ascend fairly steeply up a lane to reach a track still climbing, to the village of Upperthong. From Upperthong, down a stoney track to the A635. Cross the road to a lane leading down to a stream. Turn off the lane to a gentle track through a wood high above the stream, leading down to a bridge and a disused chimney. From here take a field path up to a lane. Along lanes, eventually turning off onto field paths down to the River Holme to the south-west of Holmfirth. Then along main road to the Stumble Inn, a community owned pub. From here down to the river across a footbridge, then gently uphill through woods to reach a lane. Along the lane down to Holmfirth bus station, where the walk ends. Refreshments depending on time. The walk may be aborted to walk back along roads to Holmfirth at various points where the walk meets a road.
