Join us for a varied and rewarding 12-mile hike taking in The Cloud, one of Cheshire’s best viewpoints before continuing to Rudyard Lake.
We begin from Timbersbrook with a steady ascent through woodland and open trails to The Cloud, a gritstone ridge offering exceptional panoramic views. From the summit, on a clear day you can pick out Croker Hill, the long brick North Rode Viaduct (sometimes referred to in historic records as Congleton Viaduct), and the Peak District skyline including Shutlingsloe and Shining Tor.
After enjoying the summit views the route descends past Cloud Side and Woodhouse Green, winding through farmland and quiet tracks towards Rushton Spencer. We then join the lakeside trail for a scenic stretch alongside Rudyard Lake, an easy and peaceful section with broad water views and plentiful birdlife.
At the southern end of the lake we turn west and regain height gradually through rolling countryside, returning to Timbersbrook via a mixture of field paths, bridleways and quiet lanes.
This is a moderately challenging walk with roughly 1,950 ft of total ascent and an expected duration of around 5 hours 45 minutes, depending on pace and weather. Winter conditions may be muddy, so robust footwear and suitable clothing are advised.
All welcome—please arrive a few minutes early so we can begin promptly at 09:30.
