This is a circular countryside walk starting and finishing in Prestbury, Cheshire taking us east to Alderley Edge and looping back through quiet farmland. This is more of a steady ramble than a strenuous hike.
Lunch will be had on the actual edge at Alderley Edge where, weather permitting, we should see stunning and iconic views over the Cheshire Plain towards Manchester and the Peak District. This area is steeped in magical wizarding legend, which makes the location somewhat mystical and romantic.
In short, it’s a classic Cheshire circular walk: varied and scenic with just enough height gain to keep it interesting without being hard work.
- Rural Cheshire lowland walking
- Mix of field paths, tracks and lanes.
- Varied scenery: open farmland, wooded edges, historic estates, and village centre
- A noticeable but short climb near Alderley Edge, otherwise gently undulating
- Can be muddy in places after rain, especially field paths
- Not technical, but long enough to feel satisfying
- Peaceful Cheshire countryside throughout
- Contrast between flat farmland and the rise at Alderley Edge
- Pretty village of Prestbury
- Toilets at Alderley Edge main car park which we will visit after lunch
- Great pub choice at the end of the walk
The Springfields car park machine appeared to have a fault at the time of the recce, and was not able to process card payments. Cash was still an option. To save time, attendees may wish to ensure they have the Ringo app, fully set up and connected to a means of payment in advance of the walk. For those super organised people, parking could be arranged and paid for before arriving at the car park. The Ringo car park code is 2682767.
