Overview

Combe Gibbet stands at axp 915ft/279m above sea level giving amazing views of a beautiful area which has  remote feel to it from the get-go. On a clear day you can see 5 counties; Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

The gibbet was erected in 1676 at the top of Gallows Down to publicly hang George Broomham and Dorothy Newman for adultery. It has only ever been used for them. They were hung as punishment for the murders they committed in attempt to hide their crime of passion.... the gibbet was a stark warning to deter others from committing adultery and murder.

There are several ups and downs with 2 steeper ascents.

Meet at 10.45am for prompt 11 am start.
