This is a beautiful trail in the Wye Valley National Landscape (formerly AONB), taking you along the River Wye and up Coppett Hill, a local nature reserve encompassing 98 hectares of woodland, grassland, and scrub. It offers some amazing views all across Lydbrook, the Forest of Dean, and the Black Mountains. If we’re lucky we might just get a glimpse of a herd of deer with stags displaying their majestic antlers. We’ll pass through to Welsh Bicknor on the way back to the car park. Don’t miss the view of Kerne Bridge, one of loveliest of the Wye bridges built in 1828.
We’ll be walking through woodlands with a few stiles and a couple of inclines. It Can be muddy.
Parking cost £3 at Goodrich Castle, English Heritage members park free. You might be able to park for free in the village, space permitting. Car-sharing is available from WRCP, meet at 9.30.
