West Mendip Walkers strenuous 12 mile circular walk from Cothelstone Hill Car Park (TA5 1AY) with 590m (1,936ft) of climb. We follow the Macmillan Way through woods and across open arable farmland descending into combes with a climb up the other side. We pass the National Trust property and gardens of Fyne Court and Broomfield. again into and out of combes. The terrain is muddy in places because of the woodland streams. There are very few stiles which are are in good condition.
We make our way across open land to the pretty village of Goathurst. We then start our return journey which will give us fine views towards Sedgemoor and the Bristol Channel. There is some quiet single lane walking at this stage of the walk. We climb again towards the top of the Quantocks where we enjoy the cropped grass walking created by the resident Exmoor ponies, and eventually return to the start point.
