West Mendip Walkers 12 mile moderate circular walk on open moorland from Widecombe in the Moor, Dartmoor National Park. From Widecombe village green we climb steadily up and along Hamel Down ridge to Grimspound, a late Bronze age settlement consisting of 24 hut circles enclosed with a low stone wall. From here it is open moorland with fine views as we walk towards the late Bronze age settlement of Jays Grave, an historical reminder of harsh societal judgements and human compassion, and then on to Bowerman's nose. The return is via Hound Tor with a small amount of lane walking at the end. The walk is dog friendly with one stile. Elevation 450M/1470ft. Refreshments after the walk at The Cafe on the Green at Widecombe.
