This walk is through gently undulating countryside on the west of Nottingham, going up from Main Street, Strelley, walking north west by fields towards Cossall then a short walk through the village to Cossall Marsh. We then go east and south, back on good tracks, over the M1 and back to the start.
There is a pleasant cafe with toilets at Strelley Hall for a drink after the walk.
All the tracks are good, with gentle uphill slopes, good views and hopefully not much mud in August. In Cossall we pass the house where D.H. Lawrence's fiancee lived, mentioned in his novel 'The Rainbow'. We also pass a church where two men are buried who fought in the Battle of Waterloo. This area of countryside is precious, lying between Nottingham City and Ilkeston. It is much valued by local people even though at times you can hear the roar of the motorway.
Please bring a packed lunch and liquid for our drinks break and lunch stop.
Any dogs must be kept on a lead as this is farmland and horse country. There may be one or two stiles only.
If you would like to join this walk please contact the Leader using the email link. Maximum number of walkers is 20.
