Starting from the Devil's Dyke National Trust car park by the large Stone Memorial Seat, we walk in a N Easterly direction following paths which drop in parts steeply to Saddlescombe. Just before reaching the Saddlescombe Road (opposite the entrance to Saddlescombe Farm), we follow various paths in a N Westerly direction towards Poynings. Thereafter we head Westerly mainly across fields to Brook House, then South to the picturesque village of Fulking. From Fulking we start a long climb, steep in places, back to the top of the Devil's Dyke ridge back to the car park.
As the Devil's Dyke pub does not open until 11.30 am, there are no public toilets or Refreshments available at the start (there will be at the end). There are plenty of bushes en-route !
At 5.3 miles this walk is somewhat shorter than most Saturday walks. However, it is quite varied in terrain with a mixture of downland, woodland & field walking with some suberb views. With a total climb / descent of 800 feet, there is plenty of cardio excercise! I am quite slow walking uphill, so, on the final long climb back to the top of Devil's Dyke, please go at your own pace back to the car park and leave when you are ready. Parts of the walk are a bit muddy - sticks are highly recommended to help keep ones balance.
Assistance dogs only on this walk please.
