Overview

Take the Deepdene Trail to explore the remains of a hidden C18 Italianate garden on the edge of Dorking, with a chance to spot a lion (stone) and remains of a grotto before enjoying views of the Surrey Hills and a walk through farmland and lunch next to Brockham village green.

This walk involves some single road walking and 114 steps – there is an alternative sloped path. There are also four low stiles and some areas which can become muddy, especially after recent heavy rain, so you may like to bring walking poles.

The Reading Room café at Brockham is the suggested lunch stop  where there are toilets and a book swap – pasties and cakes and please bring reusable cup for coffee, or Royal Oak pub serving drinks but no food. There are plenty of benches besides the green and a Spar store for those preferring a packed lunch.

Drop out point 32 bus to Dorking or Guildford at lunch time.

The walk returns via Betchworth Golf Club and finishes in Dorking town centre.
