A really scenic walk in the heart of the White Peak, leaving the Plague village of Eyam to head west along Tideswell Lane. A southerly footpath takes us directly to the delightful little church at Wardlow, before continuing west again into the top of Cressbrook Dale, with magnificent views ahead and below. Soon the eye-catching natural historic landmark of Peter's 'Hanging' Stone' comes into view as we descend steeply into the Dale, to eventually emerge at Wardlow Mires; trekking poles will be of great help on this section of the walk. If we lunch before then, overlooking the Dale, there is a chance to use cafe toilet facilities nearby.
A north easterly track leads to the timeless hamlet of Foolow, where we can stop for a refreshment break around the duck pond before a footpath east across grassy fields takes us directly back to Eyam.
The car park is likely to be busy on a weekend so best to arrive early to secure a space.
Dogs welcome, but must be on a short fixed lead.
