Overview

We walk down the lane and across the Thame River by the waterfall and detour to catch a glimpse of Eythrope House and grounds, now part of the Waddesdon Estate. Originally owned by the Rothschild family.  We then retrace our steps to take the Bernwood Jubilee way along the river and its tributaries. We cross the river where we will stop for lunch on the bridge. Passing through fields and woods which may contain sheep and lambs we reach a track to the road. We then need to walk along the road for a section and will need to keep in single file as there is a narrow verge and the traffic can go fast. We turn off the road at Dinton castle- now a private dwelling, and walk back across fields to the lane where we started. There are several plank bridges and one broken stile which we need to cross. (I managed it!) The walk is generally flat with a couple of mild inclines. Some parts muddy although there are some tarmac paths. The grass is a bit long here and there and will be quite wet after rain.

Bring a packed lunch.

The Bugle Horn Pub is a short drive away on the route back to Aylesbury if we want to have a refreshment stop. (Hartwell Rd HP17 8QP) https://maps.app.goo.gl/qKYwEwJc9ikwYLSs5

Well behaved dogs are allowed. On a lead in lamb fields please.

Where: Eythrope Road, HP17 8PR Starting point: Eythrope Road. From the A418 take the Eythrope Rd, a lane signed to Eythrope Only. It is just after the village hall coming from Aylesbury and directly opposite to the Bishopstone Road. Continue beyond the houses and the Ernest cook trust buildings, now derelict, through the gate onto the Waddesdon estate. There are several parking lay byes on the left hand side of the road, some way down the road. There are about 6 lay byes in total and you could also park on the other side of the road opposite the first lay byes. Do not go beyond the green gate on the right and where you see the road bend after the last layby. We will meet at the Green metal field gate on the right side just after the last lay by.
