A 12 mile circular walk with a mix of downland and woodland walking.
Leaving the car park, we head south west across downland south of Mount Down with views to the south. This is followed by a road section, which links two farms using both farm access tracks and a quiet country lane. We then turn north west and head into Parnholt Wood where we will stop for coffee. Exiting the woodland, we cross more downland before turning east to join the Clarendon Way, which we follow, including a fairly long but gradual climb up Beacon Hill. Hopefully, spectacular views to the north and the knowledge that the lunch stop is at the top by the Farley Mount Monument, will aid the ascent. We then continue along the Clarendon Way until branching off to explore West Woods, returning to the start via the Farley Mount Country Park.
The going underfoot should generally be good with lengthy sections on well maintained tarmac/gravel access roads and woodland tracks using permissive paths across private land. However, in sections, the Clarendon Way is very rutted with exposed chalk and muddy stretches so care will be required.
The route is quite undulating in parts with approx. 1100ft of ascent. There are four gates and no stiles.
Please check the weather forecast in advance and bring appropriate clothing as there are some exposed sections along the route.
This walk is limited to 16, so please use the link to book your place before 6.00pm on Wednesday 1st October.
Please bring sufficient food and drink for the day to include both coffee and lunch stops.
