Overview

Leaving the car park, we discover the history of the monument, then we enjoy the views along the Clarendon Way before turning off through Parnholt Wood. After passing Farley Farm we stop for lunch at Farley Church, then head back across Mount and Pitt Downs. This undulating walk has a mixture of farmland and woods, a section of quiet road walking, and some overgrown narrow paths, but no stiles!

Following Sat Nav directions to car park can be problematic. The best approach is to head north off the A3090 at Standon along Sparsholt Road, then after a few hundred yards turn left along Farley Mount Road and follow signs to Farley Mount. After a mile or so the road turns to the left. Ignor all car parks on the RHS, we are meeting in the one on the LHS marked on the OS map and known as the Monument car park.

Resist any instructions to make you turn off the A3090 along Mardon Castle Lane!
