This is a mainly forested walk that is exhilarating and picturesque in places, going through pretty villages as well as skirting around the back of The Heights of Abraham, from where there is a stunning view of Riber Castle. The walk begins at Cromford where there is a small, but not usually too busy car park (£5 card or coin payment) opposite Cromford Mill, where there is a toilet. When we reach the top of Via Gellia, near to Middleton, there is a convenient stone wall to rest on for coffee. Then in the Village of Bonsall, there is a small park with seating and picnic tables that has clean toilets nearby where you can make a coin donation. From there, it is less hilly and we take a well trodden path that zigzags back to Cromford.
