This circular walk explores two tunnels (each about 500m long) that were part of the North British Forth Railway Bridge to Perth Railway Route. The line was opened in 1890 and closed in 1970. As it is very dark in the tunnels, a good bright torch is required for this walk.
Ramblers walk grade: Leisurely/C. Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.
OS Map Landranger 58.
Car share; return mileage is 44. Passengers please give your driver £3.
The walking within the tunnels is sometimes rough and wet. Please bring a torch or headtorch. Otherwise, the route takes us on countryside tracks in farmland (may be wet), parts of the old railbed and some road walking on quiet country roads. There are two fences to cross, assistance available from the leader!
Registered assistance dogs only; no school-age children.
