This walk is a figure of eight circuit from close to Crieff Hydro. It takes us to the summit of Crieff's famous wee hill, the Knock (Gaelic Cnoc), which is a superb viewpoint across Strathearn and the adjacent mountains of the Highland edge. The route continues through the Crieff suburbs and out into the countryside to the north of the town. There we pass the hamlet of Hosh before returning through woods, fields and the side of the River Turret, via "The Famous Grouse" distillery of Glenturret.
Ramblers walk grade: C+/Leisurely. Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.
This walk can be divided into two shorter circuits from the same start point (The Hosh circuit, 3 miles, grade C; the Knock circuit,3.8 miles, grade C+). If you would like to just walk one circuit, please let the leader know; you can relax at the Hydro while waiting for the others to return!
Map is OS Landranger 47.
Car share: return mileage is 66 miles. Passengers please give your driver £6.
There are good, waymarked paths and tracks throughout, with some ascent at times. We cross the A85 twice on the edge of the town, so care is required here. Some muddy sections may be encountered during and after rain.
