A circular walk with picnic stop. We are hoping to be joined by some members of the Mid Berkshire group who are on holiday on the Island that week.
Starting from Godshill Car Park (free) we will head up to the picturesque thatched cottages and All Saints Church where a rare medieval mural The Lily Cross can be seen, and which is celebrated on Lady Day, 25th March, the day before the walk.
Passing Sainham Farm and up to the Park Estate wall, following this to Freemantle Gate, originally the main entrance, and onto Appuldurcombe House, a former 18th century baroque country house. A short stop here before walking into Wroxall.
We take the old railway line then, down to the Donkey Sanctuary for our picnic stop.
After lunch we walk back through Godshill Park to the Tea Rooms for an optional cuppa and to say goodbye to our new friends we’ve made this week.
Cafes and Toilets both at the start/finish and also available at the Donkey Sanctuary.
