Overview

Join us for a short one hour walk and talk with easy access, free parking or the Number 7 bus stop within 100 metres of the walk start.  Starting from Alum Bay , we will walk up towards The National Trust Headon Warren reserve overlooking the bay.  We will continue ascending to the Scheduled Monument Bronze Age barrow.  We will then loop back via the coast with extensive Solent views to Hatherwood  Battery with panoramic views to The Needles.

For the most part this walk is easy with some short steeper sections and some steps.  In places the path is narrow between gorse stands.  The path is mostly good underfoot, occasional loose gravel with some muddy puddles but they are drying out fast.

For anyone after a longer walk, or looking to build up to such, there will be an additional loop leaving the short walk to cross to Tennyson Down.  This route will take the lower path to The Beacon then loop back by the upper path to the Needles New Battery and Alum Bay.

The Marconi Cafe and other Alum Bay facilities will be open.

Alum Bay is served by the No7 and No 12 buses from Newport which both arrive shortly before the walk starts. We will wait for the bus arrival before we start.

New Walkers Welcome.  If you are new to the Ramblers you can just turn up for any of our walks, unless we specify otherwise.  We invite you to come along for three walks as a non-member.
