Overview

This walk serves as a preface to the recently completed Great Central Trail (stages 1 to 4). The walk passes through Chorleywood Common, then drops down into the Chess valley. We follow the river and then climb up on the opposite (eastern) side of the valley to the village of Church End (pub/picnic). After lunch we descend once again to the Chess and then climb up the western slopes of the valley. We then come to Chenies village and the historic 16c Chenies Manor together with the grade I listed church. If possible we will go into the church to see its adjacent chapel which contains the graves of the Russell family, (the Dukes of Bedford). Book a place on the walk (and a pub lunch if desired) by 18:00 hrs on 4th August (texts only please). All travel is within the FP zone.
