The BFAW and the John Bunyan Community Boat are offering a flexible and interesting day
combining a walk and a boat trip on the River Great Ouse between Bedford and Great Barford.
The John Bunyan Community Boat is operated on behalf of the Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway
Trust, all money raised goes towards the development of a 16 miles (26Km) new waterway park,
which will link the River Great Ouse in Bedford to the Grand Union Canal in Milton Keynes.
The entire trip takes around 7 hours and costs £20 plus a £1 booking fee.
Meet at the totem pole outside the café in Priory Park at 9.30am for a 10am departure to Great
Barford.
You can choose whether to travel both ways by boat or to walk part/all of the way to Great Barford,
returning to Bedford using the John Bunyan boat.
Timings are as follows:
• 10am depart from Priory Marina to Willington Lock (boat or walk).
• Walk to Castle Lock (approx. 50min)
• Continue to Willington Lock (4.0 miles, approx. 1 hour 45 min).
Decide whether to disembark/embark John Bunyan boat and/or continue walking to Great
Barford.
• 12 noon, boat departs Willington Lock for Great Barford, arrive 12.50.
Walk from Willington Lock to Great Barford (1.4 miles, approx. 45 min).
• 13.45, all board John Bunyan boat for 14.00 departure to Priory Marina, approx. arrival time
17.00.

Toilets at Priory Marina and Great Barford.
Hot and cold drinks are available from Galley Bar on the boat (licenced bar from 12 noon).
Lunch options as follows:
• Ploughman’s can be ordered from the John Bunyan Boat at time of booking.
• Bring your own picnic.
• Preorder lunch from the Anchor Pub to be available at 13.00 – see pub website for menu.
Pub lunches MUST be preordered to ensure you are ready to board the boat at 13.45.
