We begin by passing Bottoms reservoir with its interesting gauging basin. Continuing, we find ourselves walking over fields on a clear path to cross a pretty bridge (despite its name!). Then we seek to find the least muddy footpaths in the nature reserve and to leave via the Tameside trail to cross a moor before ascending Wild Bank. A gentle descent follows to pass Mottram Old Hall, visiting the church nearby and winding our way along Pingot Lane with a last short climb to Mottram Hill before making our way towards Broadbottom.
