Overview

Round walk from Shillingstone to Hambledon Hill, then Hod Hill, Stourpaine, Blandford Forest and the river Stour railway walk. Hilly, including two steep ascents. About an hour’s drive but worth it, so share cars if possible. Bring lunch.

Park and meet at Marsh Bridge Car Park, Shillingstone. The route to the meeting point can be confusing south of Shaftesbury as the B3091 is difficult to find and very slow. If you are coming from Warminster/Westbury area on the A350, I recommend that you stay on it after Shaftesbury too. After 11 miles or so, after passing Stourpaine and before getting to Blandford, turn right on to the A357 towards Sturminster Newton and Sherborne. The meeting place is then about four miles further, just after passing through Shillingstone.
