We are the Somer Valley Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
A walk to keep you warm on a winters day. From the village of Shipham we will pick up the West Mendip Way before reaching a peak above Axbridge. This provides a steep drop down to the recently improved Strawberry Line. Having gone down the hill we will then turn and begin our climb up through Shute Shelve and Winscombe Drove to return to Shipham via Sidcot and Winterhead. Please read additional information.
The weather on the Mendip Hills can change quickly so please check the weather forecast and dress appropriately. You will need sturdy footwear for this walk. You need to be used to hill walking and a walking pole is strongly recommended. Please bring a drink and a light picnic.
Due to new laws, dogs must be on a short lead at all times. There are a few stiles as well as kissing gates.
If you wish to car share please meet at the free car park off The High Street, Paulton. It's opposite The Red Lion pub and down behind the Chinese Takeaway, (Golden Fields). If it's easier to meet us at the start of the walk, please do so.
