This is a short, local walk beginning in Kilbirnie. It is graded ‘B’, ‘moderate’ mainly because the terrain is quite hard going involving walking without paths through long grass, boggy patches and a slightly awkward climb over an old gate. These challenges are set in the beautiful rolling countryside of Ladyland, Burnt Hill and Auchenbourach.
The walk begins from Ladyland Gates. We are walking the road for a short section then onto the hillside and following the River Garnock at Blackbarn and towards Garnock Castle and Burnt Hill. There is a challenging walk through long grass to our tea break at the rocks that will act as the marker to aim for. After Burnt Hill we wander to the cairn at Auchenbourach then follow faint tracks downhill to climb a gate and follow a dyke bringing us out onto the estate paths that lead to Cockston Farm and back to Ladyland.
We meet at Morrison’s at 8.50am to share cars and depart at 9am. Please do everything possible to share cars and minimise the number of cars going to the start of the walk where the parking is limited to perhaps four cars maximum. The walk begins at 9.30am from Ladyland Gates. These are the large estate entrance gates about two miles up Dipple Road, Kilbirnie.KA25 7JR.
Note that Joyce is leading this walk and because we need to minimise car parking at Ladyland Gates, walkers should contact her to assist in organising this. She is on 07436116745
