Join us for a brisk (2.5-3 miles/hour) gently undulating ramble from Horsham to Balcombe, following the High Weald Landscape Trail and the Sussex Ouse Valley Way.
Exiting Horsham station, we pass through a mix of ancient woodland, farmland and open fields, stopping for lunch at Nymans before heading on to Balcombe. The walk has some quite steep uphill sections in the morning, which we will take steadily.
We will stop for lunch at Nymans (National Trust) at about 1pm - please bring a packed lunch. There are toilets in the car park; access to the cafe for drinks and snacks will be open for National Trust members only.
At the end of the walk, for those that wish to stay on for a drink, there is an option to stop off at The Half Moon Inn close to Balcombe station, although note that this is a way away from the route.
The walk is not suitable for dogs owing to the presence of livestock and game birds.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
Travel
Take the 09:02 train from London Victoria, calling at Clapham Junction at 09:09 and East Croydon at 09:18, arriving at Three Bridges at 09:42, then switching to the 09:50 service to Horsham, arriving at 10:06.
Alternatively, the 09:09 train from London Bridge should also get you to Three Bridges in time to catch the same 09:50 train to Horsham, albeit with a shorter connection.
Return trains from Balcombe depart at xx25 and xx55 - I think we should make the 1625 or 1655.
You are recommended to buy a return ticket to Horsham.
