The walk starts from the village of Wilcot and after crossing the Kennet and Avon canal, uses field paths to reach the pretty village of Oare and its grand mansion. From here we cross the park and ascend, very steeply, to the top of the downs. From here we walk along the top of the downs, with lovely views and descend gradually on a wooded track to Oare Church. This track can be slippery. After a brief visit to the Church, we will take a permissive path running below the downs, and then return to Wilcot using field paths. Refreshments are available at the Honeystreet Mill a couple of miles away.
Expect stiles and some mud. Poles may be helpful. There may be livestock en route.
Bring refreshments for one stop. We will be back for lunch.
