Looking for a route that offers cascading waterfalls, dramatic summits, and a hidden valley few ever explore? This unforgettable journey begins with a steady climb alongside the spectacular Angletarn Beck, where a series of tumbling waterfalls sets the scene for an epic day in the fells.
From there, the path leads up to Fall Crag, rewarding us with a picture-perfect view across the lower Ullswater valley.
Passing the tranquil waters of Angle Tarn, tucked high among the Far Eastern Fells, the route continues over Brock Crag and through the wild, undulating landscape of Satura Crag and Rest Dodd.
Then it's onwards and upwards to the open expanse of Racecourse Hill, before reaching the summit of Thornthwaite Crag – unmistakable thanks to its towering beacon, a striking landmark visible for miles around.
A steep descent leads us into the peaceful, often-overlooked Hayeswater Valley – a quiet, atmospheric corner of the Lakes that most walkers completely bypass. The final stretch follows the beck downstream, gently descending back to the starting point in the picturesque village of Hartsop.
⚠️ A word of caution: This route includes steep, uneven, and occasionally pathless terrain – it’s best suited to confident walkers with a sense of adventure .
