Welcome to the Jorvic Way!
We start this first section from Tadcaster Bus Station, by the river Wharfe, leaving town via Oxton Lane and heading out into the countryside. There we wend our way through a mixture of arable and pastoral farmland, visiting the villages of Bolton Percy and Appleton Roebuck and crossing both the York to Leeds and East Coast railway lines as we go.
From Appleton Roebuck we continue through more farmland as we head towards Acaster Selby and the river Ouse. For the final part of the walk we follow the Ouse to Acaster Malbis and finish with the Cobbler's Trod which was once the main village street.
🚌 The 843 bus (Coastliner) from York Station at 9:21 arrives in Tadcaster at 9:51, in time for the start of the walk at 10:00. At the end of the walk the 21 bus departs Acaster Malbis for York at approx. 16:25.
🅿️ If you prefer to drive, meet at Mill Lane, Acaster Malbis at 9.30 (by the village hall) to car share to the start of the walk in Tadcaster. Parking in Acaster Malbis is on-street on Mill Lane, in Tadcaster use the free car park next to the bus station (where we are walking from).
🐶 Dogs are welcome but should be kept on a lead. Be aware there are multiple stiles to cross as well as fields where livestock may be grazing.
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch with you.
🍺 After the walk we can visit the Ship Inn at Acaster Malbis for a drink.
⚠️ After wet weather or high river levels some parts of the walk will be muddy - walking boots recommended!
