Overview

Area long walk. Please note the route has been reversed.
Knutsford station to Dog Wood Entrance into the Park  and onwards to the Tatton House and the National Park Trust  shops etc. where there will be  short toilet stop.
From there  to the Rostherne Exit gate and  straight down Rostherne Lane  and onwards and  through Rostherne village to Rostherne church where Lunch will be taken. (should arrive by 1.00 p.m./1.15 p.m.) depending on progress.
Leaving the church, continuing on Rostherne Lane and then on Millington Lane to Reddy Lane  then to Lymn Rd and then almost immediately we go on to Park Lane and sadly passing the Swan with Two Nicks we then  walk past Bollington Mill to Dunham Massey House.  We stop at   park picnic area (near the car park)  where   an afternoon break will taken not far from the cafe and toilets.  Biscuits will be offered here.
We exit the Park through the main entrance and go along Woodhouse Lane turning  down to Station Road  from where we will meet the Transpennine Trail, along which we will walk to the  Car Park.  Turning right we walk towards  the canal  on which we will amble  along  into outskirts of Altrincham leaving the canal at  Manchester Road and then join Navigation Road  to the station.
Possibly a little too much road/hard surface walking but mainly on pleasant country lanes and canal  footpaths.  Traffic should not be a problem - it is very light from my experience - it is very safe  provided walkers keep aware and walk in single file where necessary and follow leader's instruction.
Distance I calculate as 9.5 to10 miles with minimal ascent/descent and no styles.  Some mud and occasional tree roots.

The walks will invariably involve ascent and descent, some of which may be steep. They will usually, depending on the weather, be soft and/or muddy, sometimes with ill defined tracks across fields or moorland - ensure you have appropriate footwear. Please consider your personal fitness and ability before attending the walk - if you're not sure, feel free to contact us for advice on the potential conditions, whilst the leader will base the walk on their own ability and may issue instructions where appropriate, you are ultimately responsible for your own safety. Please wear appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather, plan for the worst and hope for the best, bring any essentials and lunch.
