We begin by walking along the River Irvine to Gatehead, continuing along the riverside towards Liagh Milton Viaduct Bridge{Scotland's oldest passenger railway line), where we will stop for a short break. Follow the river to Milton Mill, now a derelict ruin, where we will pass around the walled garden back to the riverside. Continuing along the riverside until another derelict ruined mill comes into view on opposite bank of the river (Lave Mill). Turning on to bridleway we come to a quiet country road taking us back to Gatehead. We follow the river Irvine back to the cars.
Boots, gaiters and poles required as the terrain is muddy in parts. A mixture of stiles and kissing gates along the way. There may be sheep in the fields. This is graded a C+/moderate walk due to terrain and stiles.
