This walk takes in the canal, parkland, and a pub, and will be the group's last walk of 2025!

Advance booking is not required, but if you plan on attending this walk, please indicate this on Meetup if you can (see Website link), so others can see that there will be plenty of people going.

Walk details

This is a circular walk beginning and ending at the Cunning Man at Burghfield Bridge. We will start walking west along the canal before leaving at Hissey’s Bridge. Crossing the railway line, we will continue by following the Holy Brook through the Calcot and Southcote Linear Parks. Rejoining the canal at Southcote Lock, we will return to the pub along the towpath.

By public transport

Please travel on Reading Buses number 2 (‘lime’) bus leaving stop EP in Blagrave Street in central Reading at 10.40am. The walk leader intends to travel on this bus; if it is delayed the start of the walk may be as well. 

By car

Parking is available at the Cunning Man. Charges apply, but you can obtain money back if you visit the pub at the end of the walk. 

Dogs

Dogs welcome on this walk, provided they are kept under control at all times and placed on a lead when requested by the walk leader.
