The walk starts along quiet public roads, goes up through some forestry onto the high moorland to the west of Lumsden (south of The Buck). The high point of the walk, 570m, is the top of Green Brow, Lied’s Bank. This is higher than Clova Hill at 500m. There will be views to the craggy summit of Buck to the North, Lord Arthur’s Hill in the Correen Hills to the East and across to Coiliochbhar Hill to the South East. After descending through woodland, we reach the north side of Clova House. The House is described as an “exceptional” mid C18 house, much extended. We walk down one of the many approaches to Clova House and turn off to pass Lumsden Moss (an important lowland raised bog habitat). Soon we are back in Lumsden.
The route includes a variety of roads, paths and tracks. It is recommended to visit the Lumsden Sculpture Trail after the walk, or on another occasion.
The walk will be co-led by Evelyn Batchen.
