A longish Moderate countryside walk at a steady pace for the distance. The route starts by heading south from Rhynie, across the Water of Bogie, then turning east via Barflat and Druminnor Castle (Coffee). We then have to walk (single file) on the public road for a mile or so, turning off north at Bankhead, walking past several farms to Kennethmont. After a very short pavement section here, we are back on tracks. There are banks for lunch just before Tayloch farm, then on to Bogend. The route continues across rather boggy fields Castlehill. There is a low broken down gate / fence to step across just after the farm bridge at Castlehill, the gate isn’t openable. We return to the Clatt road down the mile-long farm road, to very soon reach Rhynie again.
Type: Circular walk along mostly good tracks and roads through undulating farm countryside. This is not a hilly walk.
The route description has been updated following a reconnaissance and follow-up visit.
If the weather is inclement the walk can be shortened by heading north via Boghead to Bogend and then regaining the planned route to Castlehill. This version is less than 7 miles.
