We will be be walking through some lovely woods and then up onto the Matley Ridge with it's bracing views across heathland towards Southampton. There are some First World War stories here and it was a practice firing range. Next, we will be diving down into Pondhead Inclosure amongst the charcoal burner woods for our interesting coffee break, complete with furnishings, chairs and coffee tables. Moving on, we will trek through Denny Woods and past a medieval hunting lodge site before reaching the car park.
There are only one or two stiles.
No toilets or cafes unless you go into Lyndhurst later.
Good tracks generally on gravel and sand. Some woodland paths towards the end of the walk. Not much in the way of gradients.
