A lovely 10.5 mile walk in the white peak with fantastic views of the limestone dales and gorges. From the carpark at Over Haddon we walk downhill and cross the River Lathkill. Climbing out of the valley we head uphill towards Youlgreave where we join The Limestone Way which we follow to Monyash crossing Cales Dale on the way. Lunch will be in Monyash where the pub and adjacent cafe should be open. After lunch we walk through Bagshaw Dale then Lathkill Dale which we follow to Over Haddon. Then it's a steep climb back to the car park from the valley bottom.
Note: car parking costs £2.20 for the day, cash or Phone App only (no credit card facility). Toilets at the start of the walk and at lunchtime. Walk not suitable for dogs due to the number of stone stiles we have to negotiate, they are not dog friendly, one or two not very human friendly as well! This walk is graded as moderate but be aware that there are three steep uphill sections, one right at the end of the walk. Also the footpath down Cales Dale is formed of steep Limestone steps which are difficult to negotiate and the climb out of Cales Dale involves a bit of scrambling. Also the footpath down Lathkill Dale in parts is very rocky which may result in difficult walking conditions if it is raining.
Walkers are reminded it is their responsibility to wear appropriate footwear/clothing, bring adequate food and drink and carry emergency contact details. Go to the Walks/Information for Walkers tab for more details.
