Discover Hidden Sussex: A Scenic Circular Walk from Polegate
Get ready for a day full of stunning landscapes, charming villages, and historic gems! Starting in Polegate, we’ll make our way to the picturesque hamlet of Folkington, where tranquil countryside and timeless churches await.
From there, we’ll stroll through the quaint village of Jevington before heading towards the sweeping beauty of Lullington Heath National Nature Reserve. As we follow the peaceful curves of the Cuckmere River, we arrive in the storybook village of Alfriston—home to the very first National Trust property, The Clergy House, acquired in 1896.
Our scenic route continues with a gentle climb along the South Downs, passing beneath the iconic Long Man of Wilmington—a striking 235-foot chalk figure etched into the hillside. After soaking in the views, we complete our circular journey back to Polegate.
This walk is a perfect blend of nature, history, and English charm.
Please bring a packed lunch as we will not be having a long lunch break.
