We walk from Portbury village, climbing gradually through Prior's Wood towards Charlton Farm and the Downs school. We cross Portbury Lane (a busy road) before a short climb to our coffee stop. We descend into Lower Failand and walk down Sandy Lane and Failand Lane before following footpaths back to Portbury, passing Portbury church en route.
Bring own coffee and snack.
Suitable footwear essential as paths likely to be muddy. Walking poles useful.
Care needed when crossing and walking along Portbury Lane. Several stiles.
Please car-share if possible. Park in Station Road, Portbury, near the Priory pub. You may park in the pub car park if you intend to patronise the pub after the walk.
Refreshments available in the Priory pub after the walk.
Public transport : Bus X4 at 09.02 from Bristol Bus Station to Sheepway, arr. 09.39. Then walk over motorway footbridge to Station Rd, Portbury.
