Overview

This walk starts with a section of a few hundred metres on a footpath which runs alongside the A591, we then join Dam Road for a short distance before taking a good path through Bridge End Farm and over St John's Beck, heading NW to the foot of 'The Benn'. We continue, circling around The Benn, on a forest track steadily climbing until we reach the 'hause' before the short final ascent up steps to Raven Crag. We then retrace our route to the hause and continue, initially on the forest track, as we leave the forest the track becomes a grass path (quite soggy in part). Eventually a short rocky ascent takes us to the summit of Armboth Fell. The return is via a rocky footpath that follows Fisher Gill down to Armboth Car Park on the side of Thirlmere, we then head north on the lakeside path before joining Dam Road, crossing the Dam and picking up our original route back to the start point.
