Great Mell and Little Mell are a pair of small Fells, located near and to the North of Ullswater, and part of the Eastern Fells. From the parking layby at the Hause the walk comprises ascent and descent of each ‘dome’ with quiet road / fell path walking between the two and back to the Hause.
The summit of Great Mell Fell is the site of an ancient burial mound. It is also the site of an ex-(out of bounds) firing range now discontinued.
Unfortunately all gates on Little Mell Fell are chained and padlocked closed: two five-bar field gates must be climbed over.
