Overview

From the village hall this early winter circular walk of 9 miles heads north, and then west, to Byland Abbey.  After a short break for drinks we continue over to Wass and through Abbey Bank Wood until we meet a forestry track which takes us in a northerly direction below the Mount Snever Observatory.  The track should provide some good views of the Vales of York and Mowbray before we join public footpaths down into Oldstead for our lunch stop.  After the break we continue to High Kilburn passing Weatherill Barn before joining a quiet country lane alongside Kilburn Thicket and Fox Folly Farm, from where it is a short distance over the Town Pasture back to the cars.
