We begin our walk at Troon Cemetery.
This is a very pleasant flat walk through woodland with a carpet of snowdrops - one of the best places to see them in Ayrshire.
We begin by walking through a housing estate to enter the woods. We take the higher path up to the allotments and then down through an area with wooden sculptures - part of the former Fairy Trail, now sadly in need of upgrading.
We emerge in front of what was Fullarton House with its connections to Robert II and to the Duke of Portland and coal. The area was also well known for associations with smuggling! We can wander through the paths flanked with hundreds of snowdrops and continue to Crosbie Old Church (first recorded in 1229). There are picnic tables here if anyone wishes to have a break and a snack.
We then make our way back through the woods to the cars. As there are no coffee shops nearby we can decide if we want to head into Troon after the walk.
This walk is all on good paths so strong walking shoes would be fine. Poles optional.
Toilets available at Fullarton House.
TRAVEL - take the road to Loans Village. From the traffic lights there, head down through the next set of lights at Muirhead (Co-op on your right). Look for a bus stop on the left into Ottoline Drive where you will see parking spaces at the cemetery. Sat Nav KA10 7AP.
Please let Robina know if you are meeting at the start of the walk.
