This is a short, linear walk of approximately 3.2 miles and is on well-maintained paths throughout. The walk will be taken at a leisurely pace. There are one or two small inclines but nothing too challenging.
The walk starts at Ochiltree and finishes at Dumfries House. The part of the trail we will walk takes us mostly alongside the River Lugar which is both scenic and tranquil and is surrounded on either side of the river by fields and woodland.
We hope you will be able to join us for a cuppa/snack at Dumfries House Café at the end of the walk.
Please note there is now a £5.00 car parking charge at Dumfries House. Free car parking charges are available for anyone who stays within a 20 mile radius of Dumfries House, but you must apply for this in advance. There were a couple of small muddy areas when we did the recce, so you may wish to consider boots, especially if there has been wet weather prior to the walk. Care must be taken when crossing a busy road at the start of the walk.
This is a linear walk. Car ferrying will be arranged at the meeting point at East Ayrshire Council Headquarters prior to leaving for the walk. Please let us know in advance if you intend to meet us at the start point. Transport will be provided for anyone going directly to the start of the walk so you can return and collect your car at Ochiltree.
This is a round trip of 26 miles.
Meet at East Ayrshire Council HQ car park, 95 London Road, Kilmarnock for car sharing at 09:15 to leave at 09:30.
On entering Ochiltree from Kilmarnock, take the first right after the bridge turning into Mill Street. Follow the road along to the barriers at the end of the road.
The walk will finish at Dumfries House where we hope you will join us for refreshments.
