This circular walk through the rolling countryside north of Newbury starts at the Snugg Café at the entrance to Snelsmore Common. Initially we head south, leaving the common at Beau House and continuing southwards across the A34 to Donnington Castle, before turning west and re-crossing the A34 on our way down towards Bagnor. However, before reaching the village we shall follow a path that takes us above the Winterbourne Valley and heads north past Honeybottom and Withy Copse, before re-entering Snelsmore Common and following its western edge past Winterbourne Holt and on to Bussock Hill House. From here we turn south and head back across the common to the car park.
Inevitably, given the amount of rain we've had in January, a number of the paths and tracks on our route, particularly those on Snelsmore Common, will be wet and muddy, so wellingtons might be a sensible option. Please be aware of the weather forecast on the day and wear appropriate clothing. There are a few ups and downs on the route but none of any great length or steepness, and there are no stiles. Please bring refreshments for the mid-walk break and click on the link below by 6.00 pm on Monday 2nd February if you'd like to take part. There is no limit on numbers.
